A Persian solid silver wine jug ewer - a large silver classically proportioned jug consisting of a high shouldered body on a stepped foot and with an upswept handle and flared lip - engraved all over with an intricate segmented Islamic design and with Arabic characters underneath the spout as shown, the handle detailed with a mask and eagle head - jugs of this sort are rare in Persian silver and could be used for water or wine - elegant for use at a table or as a decorative object, this is a great example of Middle Eastern craftsmanship. Marked in several places (at least five times that we can find) for Egyptian hallmarks for 900 grade silver made in Cairo and an Arabic date letter mark for between 1968-74 - total weight 558grms - dimensions 270mm high 115mm diameter of widest point (just below handle) - c.In very good condition with minimal wear from normal use. Some oxidation or tarnish still present which could be cleaned further if so desired by the new owner. Please refer to the photos as they form an integral part of the description.
